Further update on "the Task at hand"

It appears that the agenda covered at the February 21 meeting at Yale, including the visit to the Amistad School, is no longer applicable. No more "task at hand". Have a great day.

The last time we met

The last time we met as the Education Committee there were four of us in attendance. It now appears that we have grown to twelve. Wonderful! Let us hear from you. Got a concern? Got a reaction to the recent spate of state tests? Worried about the effects of this recession (depression) on the quality of education and its implication for the future of the country? Update to the "Present task at hand"...

Hello Folks and Friends of Education,

If you are interested in visiting the Amistad School in New Haven, you have three specific days to do so this school year: April 3; May 8; and June 5. You should call Pat Sweet, the Director of External Relations at (203) 773-3223 ext. 17210, to RSVP and to get directions. According to the information I have it sounds like a rewarding, informative and very well-planned day which begins at 7:45AM.

Report from the February 21 Education Committee

We met for about 40 minutes in our sub-divided group at the Yale Afro-American Center. After re-introducing ourselves we offered our suggestions for topics of critical issues facing education today. They included learning in the urban environment; closing the achievement gap; public education in general; education for global awareness, and of course the failure of NCLB. Our first action step is to visit the Amistad School in New Haven and share our responses with suggestions for further action.… Continue
